Today, we celebrate the most important force in my life. Last month, when I lost my mom, I was exactly where I was meant to be - in the ocean – a place, remarkably, I shared with her. I say remarkably because even though she was terrified of the water and nearly drowned when pregnant with me, my mom overcame her fears and secretly took swimming lessons to get certified as a scuba diver. Unable to even put her head below the water, she conquered her fears and learned to put herself at depth – undoubtedly her biggest nightmare - in order to share something so important to her family - especially me. That was the amazing strength and dedication that was my mom. Nothing stood in her way. With Mom, anything was possible. And thanks to her determination, love and fearlessness, it was. I’m so grateful I got to see the fear leave her wide eyes, replaced with wonder for a world she never imagined she’d see. Our shared passion took us on dive trips around the world as we developed a love for all the oceans’ creatures together - moments frozen in the sea of time that I will never forget. 💙
