Remembering June: A sister's story

1939 June - 2018 July

From Nancy Worssam:

The June we all loved so much has been gone for some years now, but our memories of the June who was are strong.

We’ll never forget her remarkable sense of humor, her wit, her joyous Tom foolery. She had the ability to make us laugh when our hearts were breaking, to give us a few moments release from painful realities. She overwhelmed us with her generosity of spirit and her time. Hand made gifts were her hallmark.  Toys were produced for her children and niece and nephew when they were little. For me she made clothes. Long ago when I was joining John at a meeting his company held for Mexican and US business leaders she made a wardrobe for me. At that time my family finances were quite limited. I didn’t have the long gowns appropriate to the events. June made them for me. She was so clever a seamstress as she was so clever in so many ways.

And what cook could better June in a kitchen? None! Her meals were creative. Her desserts were as fine as those prepared by the world’s renowned pastry chefs. She spent hours lovingly baking for those she loved, no matter how busy she was.

How could she possibly complete all the tasks she set for herself in the limited time she had? Not only did she run a busy household, bring joy to her family, work full time, and create glorious times for her children and her niece and nephew. But she set about on a path of self improvement, developed her intellect, grew her mind.

Unselfish, always giving, fun loving, graceful, and beautiful. She made life better for those she loved. These last years we have all been denied her sense of humor, her graciousness, her generosity. We lost the June we knew and loved some time ago. Thankfully she has finally been released from the shroud that overwhelmed her mind and body. I would like to believe she is finally being rewarded. Of course, I can’t. I can only think how thankful I am that the torment of these last years is over.

Let’s all of us who loved her so rejoice in her freedom from the evil reality of these last years. Let us remember the joyous spirit that was June, the sense of humor that delighted us, the kindness and generosity she bestowed on all of us. Let us remember how much our lives were enriched by her presence in them.
